With 3D Scanning, Revs Institute was able capture millions of data points on rare vehicles that will allow extraction of any measurements needed to make the right restoration, conservation, and preservation decisions.

The Revs Institute, a museum in Naples, Florida, is dedicated to preserving and restoring historic automobiles from the early 1900s. The Institute is home to a collection of rare and valuable vehicles that represent the pinnacle of automotive engineering and design from their respective eras.

Our 3D Scanning solutions have helped Revs Institute drive more success by providing accurate data to assist in optimizing their workflow of keeping rare and outdated cars in a modern condition. Continue reading to learn more!

One such vehicle is the 1943 MGk3 Magnette, an epic automobile that the Revs Institute sought to replicate exactly to aid in the preservation, conservation, and restoration of these valuable cars. The vehicle was originally designed by hand, and there was no data available to define its current shape. Normally, capturing the necessary measurements would require significant time and effort.

Fortunately, the Revs Institute turned to 3D scanning technology to capture the entire body of the MGk3 Magnette in high detail and accuracy. By using the Creaform Metrascan, the Institute was able to capture millions of data points that will allow them to extract any measurements they need to make the right restoration, conservation, and preservation decisions.  The scan data was then taken into Geomagic DesignX for reverse engineering. From the scan data, a complete CAD model was generated using both traditional, and new modeling techniques.

The MGk3 Magnette is a rare and valuable car, and the Revs Institute understands the importance of keeping it in an updated and running condition. The use of 3D scanning technology and our professional services has significantly streamlined the process of capturing the necessary measurements to make the appropriate decisions.

The Institute’s commitment to preserving automotive history is unwavering, and the use of 3D scanning technology is just one example of how they are utilizing the latest advancements in technology to achieve their goals. By utilizing this technology, the Revs Institute is ensuring that future generations will have the opportunity to appreciate and learn from these incredible examples of automotive engineering and design.

In conclusion, the Revs Institute’s use of 3D scanning technology to aid in the preservation, conservation, and restoration of the 1943 MGk3 Magnette is a prime example of how technology can be used to preserve and learn from our history. The Institute’s collection of rare and valuable vehicles is an important resource for automotive enthusiasts and historians alike, and it is reassuring to see that the latest technology is being used to ensure their continued preservation.
