PLÅTSON in Sweden is a 70 employee business performing sheet metal fabrications with plants located in the coastal towns of Oskarshamn and Västervik. One of its innovative products, CIT I LÄ, is height-adjustable glazing for patio and decks that provides adjustable height screening to cope with the capricious winds coming off the Baltic Sea. PLÅTSON has recently installed an automated 3D robotic measurement system to provide accurate measurement of precision pallet assemblies used by a major truck manufacturer. The Rack arrive at the PLÅTSON factory as part of a Rack refurbishing and rectification process. Following installation of the measuring system the Racks are automatically inspected by the robot cell before being the subject of a repair and rectification process initiated by the measured data derived from the automated measurement process.

Scanning the Liberty Bell 7 using the Creaform MetraSCAN Black Elite at the Cosmosphere. When the scans and photos are layered together,

they will have a fully digital and interactive model of the capsule.

The 3D Inspection cell uses an ABB industrial Robot with a Creaform MetraSCAN 3D optical CMM scanner, engineered to perform highly accurate and repeatable metrology-grade measurements and 3D geometrical surface inspections. The MetraSCAN 3D features 15 laser crosses and a high measurement rate (up to 1,800,000 measurements/second) to accelerate 3D scanning processes. The system uses the Creaform C‑Track optical tracker enabling dynamic referencing of the 3D scanner providing robot independent measurement accuracy. Stefan Corneteg Project Manager at system integrator AFRY comments “The aim of the new control line was to increase the quality of the process and to get rack deviations documented providing the opportunity to not only know what is wrong but also how many errors in order to repair each individual racks correctly. The cloud-based reporting module developed by AFRY provides all parties the opportunity for follow-up in real time.” Stefan stated that the system is the first such installation in Sweden.
