3D Scanning of a Nautilus Scale Model
The Problem:
The customer has a scale remote control model of the nautilus submarine from the movie “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”. This model was handmade and one of a kind. He wants to be able to reproduce the model in various sizes and keep it as accurate as possible to the original.
Traditional Method:
Traditionally, a 3D artist would need to spend weeks creating a 3D model based on the physical piece. This would involve many iterations, taking hand measurements, to get it as close as possible to the original. However even with lots of time and effort, it would never be identical.
NeoMetrix Solution:
At Neometrix, using a 3D scanner called the Creaform Metrascan, we can capture all of the data within a couple thousandths of an inch accuracy, and in only a couple of hours. The level of detail includes extremely small aspects, such as the rivets, only a few thousandths in diameter. From this scan data, we can deliver fully accurate, aligned mesh of the original piece.
NeoMetrix Advantage:
With 3D scanning, there are no compromises that need to be made with the final product. A job that would have taken weeks or months by hand, can be done, and delivered in a matter of hours. In addition to being delivered quickly, there is no guesswork or interpretation needed.
