This week, Creaform, an industry leading provider of 3D solutions and engineering services, announced that their flagship metrology-grade 3D scanner, the HandySCAN, has officially been certified by Airbus. This marks a major achievement for the product, as the certification process to ensure product compliance is extremely demanding and in-depth. The HandySCAN will now be included in the next release of the company’s Technical Equipment Manual (TEM).
This certification adds to the list of achievements the HandySCAN has reached. Earlier this year, the scanner’s specifications were acknowledged by the French National Laboratory for Metrology and Testing (LNE) for meeting their high standard of excellence. When coupled with Creaform’s VXelements software which includes VXinspect 3D inspection software and VXmodel 3D scanning software, the HandySCAN can drastically reduce measurement time and production costs. These factors are part of the reason the HandySCAN is considered one of the most effective 3D scanners on the market today.
Some of the specifications of the HandySCAN include:
- TRUportability: 3D scanning where you need to go.
- TRUsimplicity: User-friendly with a very easy learning curve & a quick set-up
- TRUAccuracy: Up to 0.030 mm (0.0012 in.)
- Resolution: Up to 0.050 mm (0.002 in.)
- Measurement Rate: 480,000 measures/s. (Highest among all laser scanners)

When asked about the Airbus certification, Creaform’s Product Manager, Jérôme-Alexandre Lavoie, provided:
“This certification by an industry leader like Airbus symbolizes Creaform’s commitment to helping the aerospace as much as the automotive industries address their high-level of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) requirements…With this certification, more and more industry players are turning to Creaform technologies to facilitate and speed up their 3D measurement processes to carry out accurate assessments of aircraft mechanical damage. Our goal is to provide user-friendly and highly advanced solutions to get airplanes back in the skies faster and enable airlines to slash the high costs associated with grounded aircraft.”
The HandySCAN family of hand-held 3D scanners has been revolutionary for engineering professionals. They provide users with the most effective measurement tool available for reverse engineering and 3D design. NeoMetrix recently achieved strategic reseller status with Creaform, and offers both the HandySCAN 300 & 700 models for purchase, VXelements software applications VXmodel & VXinspect as well as 3D scanning, Reverse Engineering, and Computer Aided Inspection services with the HandySCAN.
