Wavelength is the major difference in choosing which light source to scan in. Wavelength is measured in nanometers (nm) with visible light occupying the 400-700nm range. Having access to all 3 colors in one scanner allows for the scanner to work at peak performance in all lighting conditions. For example, when scanning a red object, users best light source option would be to scan it using red light source, unless you have to coincide or spray the object with a powder coating.

Each color requires a separate calibration. The blue light is the smallest diffraction, by which the effect disc, airego, is smallest. That gives generally the best scanning result. In the white visible light, blue color it is the least effected, because the insulation of external light.

The EvixScan Heavy Duty Quadro contains all 3 light sources for optimal performance

Red:

  • Wavelength: 630-680nm
    • Lowest resolution available
  • Industry standard
    • Cheap, but more distortion
  • Dark/reflective surfaces require more spraying on the object

Blue:

  • Wavelength: 405-500nm
    • Highest resolution available
  • State-of-the-art laser technology
    • Harmful to human exposure (i.e. eyes)
  • Ideal for dark/reflective surfaces
  • Most expensive typically

Green:

  • Wavelength: 532nm
    • Resolution between Blue & Red
  • Can be potentially harmful
  • Cheaper alternative to blue light scanning of dark/reflective surfaces
    • More expensive than red
